Our History
The Finney family has been assisting the Launceston and Northern communities for over 90 years, and each generation has strived to provide outstanding service. Mr Charles Finney entered the Funeral Industry as an apprentice of Mr Storer at the age of 11. He later formed a partnership "Finney & Armitage", back in 1912.
Kenneth Finney purchased C.T. Finney & Sons from his brothers in 1978. In 1985 he was joined by his son Andrew. In the late 1980s a totally new Funeral Centre was established on land originally occupied by the company’s monumental works close by Carr Villa Cemetery, in Nunamina Avenue, Kings Meadows. The new centre, which opened in 1990, provides a large modern chapel, plenty of parking, a reception area with a private courtyard, coffin selection room, several funeral arranging rooms, a family lounge, a modern mortuary and a coffin manufacturing department. In the mid 1990s Kenneth’s son, Robert also joined the family firm. Several other family members also assume supporting roles in the running of the business. Andrew’s son, Callum and Robert’s daughter, Joanna also assist in the business, fulfilling four generations of care. Recently a new crematorium and small family chapel, "Franklin Grove" was opened on the outskirts of Youngtown, adding to the facilities that can be offered to our community. |
