In Northern Tasmania a burial can take place in any church graveyard that is still open. In some instance with permission and compliance with council and health regulations an internment can be on private land when organised prior to the death. In Launceston the local interdenominational cemetery is "Carr Villa" in Kings Meadows.
If a specific location within a cemetery is requested, the cemetery office should be contacted to discuss the availability of the site. Otherwise the next available allotment in the selected section will be allocated. Plots may be pre-purchased. The cost does not include grave digging or re-opening.
Carr Villa may be contacted on (03) 6323 3600.
Today cremation is a much more widely accepted alternative to burial. Finney Funeral Services has its own crematorium, "Franklin Grove", located on the outskirts of Youngtown. It features a small chapel which caters beautifully for the intimate funeral.
There are many memorial options available for cremated ashes. We stock a variety of urns and specially designed boxes in which ashes may be placed. We can also order specifically designed bio-gradable container options, including ‘sea shells’ for disposal at sea. Most cemeteries have a niche wall and rose garden in which ashes may be placed. There are restrictions on the size of plaques allowed in some of these cemeteries. We can advise you of the specific details. Ashes may also be intered in a grave.
If you belong to a particular church, your minister or priest will most likely conduct the funeral. If you have affiliation with a particular religion but do not attend a specific church and would like to have a religious service we can recommend a minister of that religion to conduct the service. Many celebrants will also conduct a religious funeral service.
The clergy or celebrant will meet with the family to discuss the flow of the funeral.
The venue for the funeral can be very significant. If the deceased was a member of a church, it may be appropriate to hold the service there. There may be the need for a larger venue if the deceased was known to many people. A particular hall, bowling club, special garden, by the beach or even in the family home, are just a few possibilities for a funeral venue. The C.T. Finney Chapel is available for use for all our funeral services. With the capacity to comfortably seat 250 people, the ample car parking, the adjoining refreshment area, and proximity to Carr Villa Cemetery, it is a popular option for families and their guests. Our little chapel at “Franklin Grove” Youngtown caters beautifully for the more intimate funeral, seating about 25 people.
Our coffin selection room at Finney Funeral Services features a wide range of coffins and caskets on display. We place no pressure to choose the more expensive lines and families are allowed as much time as they wish to examine the different styles, woods and stains, and to pick the fabric in which the coffin can be lined. A full catalogue is available for those that wish to make their funeral arrangements from home, including a large selection of lining fabrics.

We have an extensive display of urns available for purchase. Choice is not, however, limited to the stock we carry. Urns may be selected and ordered from catalogues.

Finney Funeral Services can create a very personal audio visual presentation by scanning about 25 photographs of the deceased’s life and setting the photo display to a favourite piece of music. Photos are faded in and out creating a wonderful overview of a person’s life. The photographic audio visual presentation can be a very moving sequence in the funeral service. The photographic presentation is transferred to a DVD as a memorial keepsake for the family. Every funeral in our chapel is recorded on DVD as another important keepsake for the family to treasure.
At the familys’ request, we can organise the entire funeral service to be captured.
The selection and use of music is an integral part of the funeral service and can create the emotional tone. Music can put into words the emotions bound in our hearts. A funeral can be very personal when music that was special to the deceased is incorporated.
We can organise an organist, or guitarist, bagpiper, trumpet player and even a harpist. Choirs, singers and soloists can also be arranged for a service. A list of popular music choices can be found in our Resources section.
The selection of flowers is a very personal choice. We are more than happy to organise any floral tributes required.
Instead of sending flowers, sometimes families invite friends to make a donation to a particular charity or health service in memory of the person who has died. We have an extensive listing of possible charities and donation envelopes available at our office.
It is very helpful for all mourners – family, friends, business associates and acquainances, to get together after the funeral in a social atmosphere to remember and re–live the good times and the bad they have shared with the deceased. This is a time to offer support to each other. Finney Funeral Services provide a reception area, with a private courtyard, adjoining the main chapel for this purpose. Quality sandwich, sweet, cheese and hot savoury platters can be organised on your behalf, to cater for refreshments following the service. Tea and coffee are served at each reception and we can also provide alcoholic beverages for final toastings at the family's request. Refreshments can also be delivered to venues other than our centre.

We can organise for a Death & Funeral Notice to be placed in any newspaper throughout Australia or overseas.
Through the creative use of scanned family photographs of the life of the deceased, we can put together a memorial album. A treasured collection of memories of your loved one. An album can be created for each family member.

The release of a dove or balloons can be a meaningful inclusion in the service.
The lighting of candles is a funeral tradition and is symbolic of love, light and hope.
Small intimate funerals can be very beautiful. Such a funeral can take place in the family home or perhaps at a special venue. Our centre has the provision for creating an intimate setting and our little chapel at “Franklin Grove” caters exceptionally well for the smaller gatherings.

The venue for a funeral service does not have to be limited to a “building”. Services can be conducted in paddocks, gardens, beaches or any other place of special significance to the deceased or the family. Ultimately we are here to create the funeral service you would like!
